AN OPEN LETTER WRITTEN TO THE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE

OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE: ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA-AKOKO (AAUA) NEEDS URGENT ATTENTION
September 7th, 2016.

Protocol,
BEFORE THE HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED, I deem it quite important to write the CARING HEART governor of the sunshine state at this crucial crucial hour that the sins of a father can be visited on his child regardless of the good he may have done before hand.
It is not an overstatement that Ondo State has witnessed a mouth-watering development since the inception of Dr. OLUSEGUN MIMIKO. This achievement is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. The world class multi-million naira SENATE BUILDING built in the school, a 21st century LIBRARY stationed in the school, world class sports complex, comprehensive health centre, uninterruptible power plant, provision of personnel of international repute which has encouraged our students to stand the test of time among their contemporaries & many other monumental projects that have taken place in the 21st Century University are testimonies of your CARING HEARTEDNESS.
Your Excellency Sir, despite all the good your administration has done AAUA, your lackadaisical attitude towards the on-going ASUU industrial action is about to spoil the good rapport you have enjoyed with the school for over seven (7) years. As a visitor to the university, I think the welfare of the school and the members of staff therein should be your utmost priority as it used to be when Prof. FEMI MIMIKO was the Vice Chancellor. Many people have attributed your lacklustre attitude to the fact that since your brother is no longer the Vice Chancellor of AAUA, you have decided to ignore the school, even though it is a wrong assertion but this handwriting on the wall has implied reality in their speculation.
Even though the economic is bad and allocation is not
forthcoming as it used to be, never-the-less, the sweat of a labourer should not be allowed to dry. Sir, do you know that your non-challant attitude towards the payment of salary in AAUA has rendered most lecturers irresponsible before their family as they cannot cater for their immediate needs. This age
long non-payment of salary has made it difficult for the lecturers to put food on the table at their various homes. Up to this time, none of them can afford the school fees of their ward(s). In terms of research, some of them are now lagging behehhind because it has been long they lecture students in class. In the same vein, our teeming frustrated students have become vulnerable. Most of our boys have become political 'halleuyah boys' because they are idle in their various homes. Prostitution has become the baptismal alternative job for our female students. Infact many of them have been put in the family way owing to this industrial action. Also, the economy of AKUNGBA has witnessed a great setback as students and lecturers who are the major fragment that patronize their wares/stalls are not readily available. This has caused economic paralysis & meltdown in the area.

Your Excellency Sir, if this industrial action tarries further than this, many of our students may not graduate this year & as a matter of tendency, many of them may not meet up with NYSC age limit to serve their father land. Moreso, finalists in the department of LAW may not meet up with LAW SCHOOL this year
which invariably has a telling effect on them. Apart from that, many of the students in AAUA are self-sponsored. Their businesses have sunk alongside this AKUNGBA community economic recession thus leaving them poorer than they came. Having said that Mr. Governor, on behalf of the future leaders in AAUA & for the sake of our loyalty & unshaken support for the People's Democratic Party for the past seven years we plead for your quick intervention. Failure to do this within the next SEVEN (7) DAYS may keep your administration at the receiving end.
Because it would serve as an avenue for the opposition parties in Ondo State to set up propaganda that may work in their favour if caution is not taken. If you would not say I am being puerile in my analysis Your Excellency sir, remember that AAUA lecturers are microcosm of civil servants in Ondo State who are major determinants of who wins an election in this state. Therefore, AAUA housing over 5,000 workers with over 20,000 students in a senatorial district where over 700,000 votes can be realized cannot be underated at a time like this. Failure to attend to AAUA now is like inviting the opposition party to take advantage of our weaknesss in PDP.

Finally, on be half of ever gallant AAUAITES who are fearless ready to take destinies into their own hands by re-writing the history which may not favour them on the long run but that would leave a relics on the rags of time which may invariably dent the good image your administration has been projecting for long & for the sake of posterity on the ambition of our own loving candidate Mr. EYITAYO JEGEDE SAN, a man God has destined to take Ondo State to the next level, we, without any iota of THREAT, CONTEMPT or FEAR, demand that:

1. Within the next SEVEN (7) DAYS which starts from
WEDNESDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2016 - TUESDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER, 2016 the state government MUST meet with ASUU-AAUA chapter to resolve their differences & pay their salary to a reasonable extent.

2. The school be re-opened & all academic related activities should start with utmost dispatch.

3. That Dr. OLUSEGUN MIMIKO, in person, should come on broadcast media in a Phone-in-Programme to address the entire citizens of Ondo State on this matter to clear all the odoriferous rumour that has engulfed the scenario of this development.
With these measures, our confidence will be back that indeed we still beat in the pulse of our CARING HEART GOVERNOR. Once again sir, a stitch in time saves nine lest some desperate political interlopers make JUDAS ISCARIOT of our SIMON PETERs to wreak cheap but blistering propaganda on your painstakingly nurtured achievements. Amangla Awetu!

Yours in struggle,
